Seeds of Hope: Seeds of Change

We’ve been reflecting on where we are as a nation and the new focus on sustainable living, and we have noticed more home gardens popping up all over the place. People are finding ways to not only save money by growing their own food, but are also taking a closer look at what they are doing and how that is contributing to the region and the world. We are working in exciting times that call us to new opportunities and challenges.  As ACF staff involved in raising money and daily operations and as board members involved in making strategic decisions about grants, we see the beginning seedlings of change as well as the flower of growth over time.  We are rolling up our sleeves, and in more ways than one, we are planting seeds for tomorrow’s harvest.

Each donation to ACF is like a seed. Whatever you give has endless potential. The next time you hold an acorn in your hand, look up at the tall oak tree from which it fell and realize the potential you are holding.

Just like that acorn, your donation contains the potential for great change -- change that can help to take on problems of environmental destruction, poverty, racism, immigrant and new residents, and the strengthening of communities and people to make change from the roots up.

When your donation is combined with others, your giving potential grows. Imagine a bunch of acorns growing into a lush forest of strong oak trees.

Appalachian Community Fund has already had several seeds grow into their potential. See what our donors have helped us do!

ACF donors have helped open the region's first shared-use "Kitchen Incubator" for farmers and rural producers to create and market gourmet/specialty home grown foods.

ACF donors supported eleven interpreter training workshops, training over 200 people in eleven languages for work in nonprofit organizations.

ACF donors have helped stop the construction of 30 miles of ATV trails in an area identified by Greenpeace and the National Forest Alliance as one of the 10 Most Endangered National Forests through citizen action and organizing.

ACF donors helped educate and register over 1,300 new voters in one state.

We hope that we can count on you to give your financial support to ACF and to become one of our donors. And if you are already a donor, we hope that we can count on your continued support. A donation of any amount will allow us to remain strong and steady in our growth to support folks and organizations in Central Appalachia who need it most.

Let’s roll our sleeves up together and plant seeds of hope and seeds of change for our region.
