THE GENERAL FUND

Purpose

The Appalachian Community Fund (ACF) makes grants on a yearly basis from the General Fund Program which is supported by a combination of unrestricted funds and monies from the Alexander Fund of the New York Community Trust. ACF's General Fund is an annual board-directed program focusing on organizing for social change and is monies organizations may use for general support as well as for programs and projects.

Please download and review the General Fund application grant guidelines below. This Request for Proposals (or RFP) describes this program's funding priorities and criteria and gives instructions on how to apply, prepare, and submit your application.

PLEASE NOTE: There are several changes in the information requested and the questions on the narrative in this year's application. For instance, the cover sheet now asks you to select one of two areas for your organization's request: emerging/seed grant or movement building.

We urge you to read through the entire application before writing your proposal to make sure you understand what information is being requested, the form that we need it in, and what the criteria are.

Grant Amount

Organizations may apply for funding in one of two categories:

  • Emerging Group/Seed Grant (up to $5,000 for groups in earlier stages of development)
  • Movement Building Group (up to $10,000 for more established groups)

ACF Does Not Fund:

  • Profit-making organizations
  • Electoral lobbying for initiatives or public office
  • Individual efforts
  • Major capital projects
  • Social services organizations unless they demonstrate some analysis and strategies to challenge the systems that lead to the problem

Deadline

For the 2008 General Fund, proposals must be received in ACF's office by 5:00 PM on Tuesday, November 6, 2007. Postmarked dates do not count.
